1. What is the difference between the Mammoth-L and Mammoth-X?
Both models combine an insulated outer mitt with a removable inner glove. The main difference is the cuff and how the mitt is secured.
Mammoth-L: Features a shorter cuff designed to fit under winter coat sleeves. Its flip-open mitt and thumb use magnetic closures.
Mammoth-X: Features a longer gauntlet-style cuff designed to fit over jacket sleeves. Its flip-open mitt and thumb use button closures.
Choose the cuff design that best suits your outerwear, work environment and personal preference.

2. Cold-Weather Performance & Dexterity
What temperatures are the Mammoth mitt/gloves rated for?
The Mammoth gloves do not have an official laboratory-established temperature rating.
The products are designed for extreme cold, and the website references conditions of -40°C/-40°F to describe their intended environment. However, this is not a guarantee that every user will remain warm at that temperature.
Warmth depends on factors such as individual circulation, activity level, exposure time, wind, moisture, fit and layering.
Will my hands stay warm at -40°C?
The Mammoth is designed for demanding winter conditions, but no glove can guarantee warmth for every person in every environment.
Your hands may become cold more quickly when you are standing still for long periods than when you are moving. A proper fit, dry insulation and appropriate layering are important. Using compatible hand warmers in the internal pockets may provide additional warmth.
Monitor your hands for signs of cold injury and seek appropriate shelter or protection when necessary.
Are the Mammoth gloves suitable for Arctic conditions?
Customers have reported using Mammoth gloves in northern and Arctic environments, including extremely low temperatures. Individual experiences will vary, and those reports should not be treated as a universal temperature guarantee.
For prolonged Arctic exposure, consider the complete clothing and hand-protection system you will need for the activity and conditions.
These gloves feel thick. Can I shoot while wearing them?
Yes! Although the Mammoth mitt/gloves are designed to provide substantial warmth in extreme cold, they are also designed to maintain the dexterity required for operational tasks.
As a serving police officer and the designer of the Mammoth gloves, Terrance has personally tested and demonstrated weapon-handling capabilities, including drawing a pistol from a holster, trigger manipulation, and magazine changes.
Testing has been conducted with pistols, rifles, and shotguns similar to those commonly used by police services. Officer safety is paramount, and Terrance would never recommend a product to fellow officers without first putting it through practical testing myself.
The Mammoth-X V2 was also Tested and Recommended by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) in 2024. Additionally, the Mammoth gloves have received evaluation and recommendations from experienced tactical professionals, including Randy Turner, Owner of Direct Action Combat and former JTF2 assaulter, and Chris Mandiga, Owner of Tirsia Tactical and a Use of Force and Combatives Instructor.
You can watch demonstrations of the gloves’ weapon-handling capabilities on our YouTube channel.

3. Sizing and Fit
How do I choose the right size?
Start by reviewing the sizing chart on the individual product page.
The Mammoth has an insulated inner glove and an outer mitt, so the overall fit is particularly important. You want enough room for comfortable movement without excessive tightness or unnecessary bulk.
If you are familiar with the Mechanix brand, the glove sizes are comparable.
Why do my new Mammoth gloves feel tight or stiff?
The Mammoth uses premium leather, which can feel stiff when new and soften with use. Some initial snugness is normal, but the gloves should not be painfully tight or restrict circulation.
Like any quality leather product, the mitts need to be broken in before reaching their full potential.
Wear them for short periods in a safe environment to allow the leather to soften gradually.
Should I train with my new gloves before using them at work?
Yes. We recommend becoming familiar with the fit, feel and functionality of your gloves before using them in demanding situations.
